Presidents Cup - Sunset over the Gulf of Mexico - Naples, Florida
In our very first event as TeamFLC-Texas, a group of high school girls from Austin and Dallas (~4 hrs away) met in Naples, FL last weekend for the Presidents Cup - a NCAA recruiting tournament with 300+ college coaches and almost 80 HS and Club teams.
Friday - We flew in and everyone met at the hotel - Quality Inn & Suites Golf Resort, with two girls to a suite - each girl had their own bathroom - the suites were HUGE and overlooking the golf course ("We aint runnin' no junkyard here!")
It was 10:30 pm by the time we got the team together - this was the first time the girls met. We issued uniforms, gave them the Rules & Expectations of the trip, wake up time, breakfast time and vans leave for the fields time, then sent them to bed. The girls will learn each others names, positions, etc at the field on Saturday.
Saturday - The schedule master was not kind to us - games at 8 am, 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm - these are full regulation games with NO timeouts. So breakfast was at 6 am and then off to the fields.
Game 1 - we lose to a very good team from Florida (see video below).
Game 2 - we beat Bamalax, an all-star team from Alabama.
Game 3 - we lose a tough game to Intrepid from Pennsylvania 14-10 (we hit the goalie and goal pipes a number of times).
Game 4 - we finished the day against a team from Chicago - Midwestern Elite and were down 6- 4 at the half to rebound with a 13-6 win to finish the tournament with a 2 - 2 record.
Saturday Night - Team Dinner at Buca di Beppos - YUMMY and then Karaoke, poolside at the Inn.
Sunday - late breakfast, went to the beach - a beautiful State Park in Naples where the Texas girls got to see a large sting ray up close, then a late lunch and headed to the fields to watch the championship game -
Stickbenders (5x Florida State HS Champs Vero Beach team) vs Edge (Canada Elite). This may have been the best HS girls lacrosse game I have ever seen - incredible stick skills and athletes - Stickbenders the slightly more talented team, but Edge goalie was the difference maker with at least 4-5 point blank, one - on - none stops!
Canada 7 - Vero 5
We head to the hotel to get some sand off and get ready for dinner. Sunset at the beach - downtown Naples at the end of 5th avenue - an incredible sunset - great photo op - saw dolphins swimming (very exciting for the Texas girls) then gave the girls time for dinner on 5th Ave (as the names sounds - a very upscale part of Naples).
Monday - By the time we got back to Texas, we had been contacted by over a dozen college coaches!!!
Check out this great shot by the team we first played at the tourney - this shows just a small glimpse of the talent - remember from the goal to the restraining line in the girls game is 30 yards, not 20 yards like in the boys game!

Here is an email from one of the Dallas girls parents...
Tom,
Thank you very much for including my daughter and the other Dallas girls on your team this past weekend. We had a great time, and I thought the girls played well, especially considering the fact that they never even practiced together. You guys did a great job of making it fun for all of them, and I'm sure we'll see you on the lacrosse fields in the future.
Thanks again,
Tim
GO TeamFLC-Texas!!!
