5 v 5 Lacrosse - NEW and exciting format!!!
TeamFLC will host the 9-11 Memorial Cup on Sunday September 11, 2011. On this date, 10th years ago, America was attacked by terrorists and 9-11 would forever live as a date of historical significance throughout the world.
The playing fields will be covered with Girls & Boys High School and Middle School teams from all over Orlando, Tampa and Austin, TX. The "Game" will run from 8 am – 5 pm at all three locations with stoppage of play and a moment of silence at 8:46 am (Tower 1), 9:03 am (Tower 2), 9:37 am (Pentagon) and 10:03 (Pennsylvania).
RULES: (Think half court basketball games)
We will be playing US Lacrosse HS Lacrosse rules. At the field a stick will be flipped - and called in the air "open" or "closed"
This will determine who gets the ball first. The ball will start at the "clear out line" (30 yards from the goal) and play will begin on the refs whistle. Both goalies stay in the same crease - one in the goal and one behind it, taking a knee in the goal circle.. If there is a goalie save the ball must be cleared out to the "clear out line" and there can be pressure. If there is a goal, it is a free clear to the opposite team to the "clear out line" and play will start on the whistle. If defense creates a turnover and gets the ball they must clear it out to the "clear out line" before bringing the ball back on offense. Substitution will happen from the sub box. The player must be in the box before the new sub can enter the field.
At each site, teams will be designated as Patriots or Heroes. The game begins at 8 am with 25 minutes of playing time, a 5 minutes break to bring on a new group of players (teams) and this format continues to 5 pm when the game ends. At each site, the scores will carry over to each new group and the final score will be total of all groups that played during the day. Each team is guaranteed 4 - 25 minutes of play.
Look forward to exciting lacrosse action, nice weather, good food and a time for players, coaches, officials, families and friends to reflect and remember the great efforts of our Heroes & Patriots and those we lost on 9-11-2001.
Proceeds from the day will go to The National September 11 Memorial & Museum, a private not-for-profit (501c3), responsible for oversight of the design, raising the necessary funds, programming and operating the Memorial & Museum being built at the World Trade Center site.
